Riding for Disabled

RDA Logo

There is something very special, even therapeutic, about the relationship children form with animals. You can see it in action every Friday morning between 10 and 12 during term time at Pound Cottage Riding Stables when the children from Beaucroft School arrive for their lesson with the Milton Abbas Riding for Disabled (RDA) Group.

Under the watchful eyes of our volunteers, children develop a special bond with the ponies and their helpers. This experience helps them build physical strength, gain confidence in speech development, and develop social skills. Hearing the children’s laughter and seeing their enjoyment is the reward of the group’s committed members.

Volunteers work as pony leaders or ‘side helpers’ to ensure the safety of the children on the ponies and to encourage their speech development. Trained Instructors lead the lessons and help new volunteers ‘learn the ropes’.

If you’d like to know more about the group or are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Liz Platten on 01258 881650 or email
